I may sound like a man basher here, but this is the reality of my observations. I know a number of fantastic women who are well-educated and incredibly successful who intimidate the men they meet by virtue of their accomplishments. They did not sacrifice a personal life for the sake of their careers and they are incredibly warm, genuine people. Men just tremble when they realize what these women do, because they were never held to the same standard of success. Invariably, insecurity emerges and it’s the women’s fault that they are still single.

Reza Aslan: “How to Win A Cosmic War”

Today I read Reza Aslan’s How to Win a Cosmic War: God, Globalization, and the End of the War on Terror and took ten pages of notes. I’ve talked about my fancy for flow charts before; it’s a bit of a compulsive reading habit. Anything less than half a composition book is not copious notes by my standards but that in itself speaks to the accessibility of the book. It’s a commendable work, mainly because Aslan leaves the reader with the chance to give his or her own perspective on why this is or isn’t so. It’s pretty open-ended. Second Part: Taste

Back in the first part of this story, I said I’d talk more about dialogue, not to understand Islam exactly, nor speak for Muslims. To anyone who wants to understand Islam, I’d say you should go for it, and would recommend Reza Aslan’s No God But God for starters because thats where I started. Or you can ask me below for sites of the any number of Muslim bloggers talking about Islam today as well. Reza’s new book How to Win a Cosmic War is out now and I hope to read it. I do, however, get the feeling I have an idea of what it says before looking at a single page.
