New Lily Allen Video: Not Fair
Review: The Fear by Lily Allen
The second track on Lily Allen’s “It’s not me. It’s you.” is her newest single, “The Fear.” There are plenty of good reviews out there already, so I’ll spare the commentary and go straight the video. Yesterday, I ran through Lily’s Generation RX statement in Everyone’s At It, the first track on the record. In this track, Lily talks about not being skinny, money and greed, and not people think her music is now that she’s famous. Let’s take a look back.
Lily Allen, “The Fear” music video:
I like the video, and the song alot. But where’s the honest, sinking into a downward spiral, Lily songs about self-loathing but weren’t emo because they also mentioned mundane stuff like watching the BBC’s “Antiques in the Attic?” Ah, here:

So, let’s dive right into the new Lily Allen album with a talk about prescription drugs and street drugs. Those are the topics in Lily Allen’s track “Everyone’s at it,” the first on “It’s not me. It’s you.” She’s not the first to tackle drugs with a song. ‘Minna-snowta’ rapper Atmosphere, The Verve, and D-12 with Eminem have all written songs about hard drugs too. They are others as well.
“The Fear” Music Video Comments
Sophomore Album
I want to be rich and I want lots of money
I don’t care about clever I don’t care about funny
I want loads of clothes and f***loads of diamonds
I heard people die while they are trying to find them
Freshman Album:
Oh Jesus Christ almighty,
Do I feel alright? No not slightly,
I wanna get a flat I know I can’t afford it,
It’s just the bureaucrats who won’t give me a mortgage,
Well it’s very funny cos I got your xxxxxx money,
And I’m never gonna get it just because of my bad credit
Oh well I guess I mustn’t grumble,
I suppose that’s just the way the cookie crumbles.
Consensus? A or B? Do they sound different?

I went through articles about Lily today but there’s not much for me to base my review over. Lots about how she can’t buy condoms because she’s famous now, or that she’s greddy, or too British. Whatever. The reason to like Lily is that she knows what she does well: voice work. She experiments with it, and the rest of her “persona” is who she really is, as evidenced by the nasty insults thrown Lily’s way by the entertainment industry because we all know how well they deal with reality. Lily has had problems, but she’s not a trainwreck, and she’s not an actress like 50% of other female music/movie artists (read: fake talent lying about being on the verge of breakdown). Fame makes you crazy. Yup, it’s fact. Dave Chappelle said so. Might as well be honest, and then promptly move on.
About Womanizer…
Lily Allen said:
now some of you may be wondering why i covered “womanizer”, simple really, i love britney and i love the song , it wasn’t my intention for it to have whizzed round the world like it has, mark ronson asked me for something no one had heard to play on his radio show and womanizer was the only song i had as an attachment on my blackberry and i couldn’t get home to send him anything else in time. i had asked him to talk all over it so it wouldn’t get ripped, but he didn’t , thanks mark for getting me in serious trouble with my record company.
Note passed.
Littlest Things Reminding me of high school boyfriends
I know it’s lame but it’s true…
“When I was feeling down, you’d make that face you do. There’s no one in the world who could replace you.”
Lily Allen: Womanizer
Womanizer cover song, that is. I remember back in ye olde days when Lily used to tell the gossip blogs she would slap Paris Hilton if she ever saw her. Well, this is kind of like that, but better. Below she slaps Britney Spears by boiling down Womanizer to perfection.
Wait, there’s more after the video…
“Hi, I’m just wonder if you have any sort of punky, electronic, kinda rhyme, kinda like the new wave rhyme? Kinda like the more broken beats, like kinda dubby broken beats but a little bit kind of soulful.”
- Opener for LDN, named the happiest song in the world by researchers.
- Lily’s new CD “It’s Not Me, It’s You” came out yesterday.
- Keep up with Lily on Twitter!
Update: I forgot to mention my favorite Lily cover. L showed it to me a couple weeks.
Enjoy.
