Mrs. Toon made mine for 13 bucks. The process goes like this: you send her a photo then seven days later she sends the new avatar back. You just upload it on her site. She’s also very nice, calls you pretty, and simply does divine avatars. There’s also a way to get one free on Twitter, but in the end, I decided it’s not a bad price. Artists gotta get paid, too.

Psst – Meet the Taqwacores
Some of them were a bit more punk and little less Islamic, while others were more Islamic but less punk. And some were both, and other none… It’s not punk. It’s not Muslim. It’s Taqwacore. Lesson learned.
Since I mentioned punk music and Islam in my projectile rant about punk Christianity, which probably isn’t as cool as I made it out to be, but nevertheless, I gots some high hopes. I also did a more grounded post a while back on punk Islam with my own commentary about Taqwacores. To get it, though, I think you just gotta listen to the music. Or read the poem that opens the book; it cuts right to the chase with “all the people in Mecca knew Muhammad’s name, they knew him by his fucked-up hair, and dangling wallet chain.”

New Logo
Rough Draft
Thanks to Allen Chiu, a designer from Cali that found me on Facebook, I have a new logo. It started out a while back, when I decided to get a characiture done and set it up to the Facebook gods who would do it. In other words, I made a marketplace listing. I based it loosely after the Smashing Magazine logo, which I like because it’s simple and well-balanced.
