Travel Journal
It’s official. I’ll be going to the Presidential Inauguration in Washington DC. If you won’t be in DC, you can join the celebration online. Such is the democratization of web. I hope you’ll follow me here, too. I’ll be posting photos, writing about my plans (once I finally get it together and make them), and reflecting on the experience on Obnoxious Fellow.
Last time I was in DC was for the election. I spent the historic night with a group of bloggers and new media characters at NPR headquarters. I was very grateful for the opportunity and had a blast watching new and traditional media make history together in covering the “first election the Internet won.” Very cool.
I also made a few friends along the way. Two of them, Julie and Emon, will be joining me for the inauguration live and in the flesh. Emon blogs at emonome and Julie has her own thing going on too on her site, Collazo Projects.
By the way, NPR has some cool stuff going on for the inauguration according to Andy Carvin from the NPR social media desk. Look forward to seeing what they have up their sleeve as I plan on updating you about it here as well. It’ll be interesting to see how it compares with the work they did to cover the election back in November.
Let me know if you’ll be in DC for the event. I’d love to hear your plans and possibly meetup (or tweetup if your on Twitter like me: @blogislam). Otherwise, keep in touch! I also want to hear what your hopes and expectations are for Obama’s address and/or concerns for his presidency, especially if you won’t be in DC for the event itself.
–Psst… The travel journal in the photo is from my sister. She bought it and had my name engraved on the front while studying abroad in Argentina. It’s. Awesome. Sauce. (as she’d say.)–
